The most visited National Park in the country. You can still find solitude.

Even though i have not been able to take full advantage of all the great weather we have had this winter, it has been a great winter for hiking and fishing in the Smokies.

I am getting ready for a backcountry excursion starting in the Elkmont area. We’ll be hitting Jakes Creek, Miry Ridge, some of the AT, Greenbrier, and Middle Prong…I have hiked some of the surrounding trails , but not these specific. Gonna try a hammock out on this one. is there anything in particular about these trails that I need to be…[Read more]

We’ve got a new trail report page. So far only have 3 trails for the Smokies but will add more over time as we do them.

Got to Clingmans dome early this morning. Walked up to the tower then hiked a little on the App trail. Was perfect weather except for the few down pours that popped up. About 1 pm i let my daughter do a little shopping in Cherokee right after lunch. Around 5 pm we fished awhile on Collins creek. Caught a few Rainbows. Saw two elk down from the new…[Read more]

Hey Paul,
Sounds like a great time out. I don’t know much about those trails in particular but the following websites should get you started: http://www.yoursmokies.com/hikingthesmokies.html, http://www.yoursmokies.com/smokymountainsnationalparkcamping.html, http://www.hikinginthesmokys.com/, http://www.nps.gov/grsm/parknews/newsreleases.htm,…[Read more]
Appreciate it. If I don’t mind the wieght of my camera, maybe I can snap some pictures and upload.
Paul: if you’re gonna go to the trouble of hefting a camera you might want to consider taking a small tripod along as well — with all the dense tree cover in the Smokies it’s very difficult to get good pictures in low light w/out a tripod.
Yes, I have been meaning to get a tripod. I also thought about doing some video as well.
I’d just go with a point and shoot, but that’s just me. Looks like you’ll have great weather if you are heading out this week and I hear the fall colors are already showing in the upper elevations.
Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, I hear it will be nice. We are going with 19 guys, split up in three groups. I am trying my hammock this time. Just finished waterproofing my tarp. It seems like we hit rain when were there, although it looks like a good forecast. I’ll try and get some pictures.
